Wellness Policy

Healthy, active, and well-nourished children and youths are more likely to attend school as well as be prepared and motivated to learn.

Our Wellness Policy is designed to build the skills and knowledge of students to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  It provides physical activity and nutrition education into core academic subjects.

The Oakley Union Elementary School district has written a wellness policy that aligns with the Federal Child Nutrition and Women, Infants, and Children Reauthorization Act of 2004 which mandates that any district participating in a federal nutrition program adopt a policy on student wellness that, at a minimum:

  1. Includes goals for nutrition education, physical activity, and other school-based activities that are designed to promote student wellness.

  2. Includes nutrition guidelines selected by the district for all foods available on each campus during the school day, with the objective of promoting student health and reducing childhood obesity.

  3. Provides an assurance that the district’s guidelines for reimbursable school meals will not be less restrictive than federal regulations.

  4. Establishes a plan for measuring implementation of the policy, including the designation of one or more persons in the district or at each school charged with operational responsibility for ensuring that this policy is implemented.

  5. Involves parents, students, representatives of the school food authority, school administrations, and the public in the development of the school wellness policy.

The Wellness Committee monitors the Wellness Policy on a regular basis.
